What is the Market Development Group for Waste Resources?
The Market Development Programme for Waste Resources 2007 - 2011 was published by the Market Development Group and aims to promote more indigenous recycling of recovered materials in Ireland.
The Programme seeks to identify new applications and markets for recyclable material and secondary recycled products.
Among the key issues to be addressed in the MDP, are, promoting stable demand for recovered materials, supporting the achievement of economies of scale in the production of products made from recycled materials and the need for more recycling infrastructure in Ireland to reduce reliance on overseas markets.
The Programme is a multi-annual programme with a timeframe of five years. There are five main components to it:
1. Overarching Programme Initiatives (for example Green Procurement);
2. Organics Programme;
3. Paper Programme;
4. Plastics Programme; and
5. Communications.
Specific Initiatives to be started in 2009 can be found in the “Action Plan 2009”.
